Boston Academie d’Armes is excited to reveal its commemorative Five Year Anniversary logo.

The Academie’s Five Year Anniversary logo was created by Rachel Creemers and was designed to tell the story of the school’s growth in its first half-decade. Rachel also created the original Academie Shield logo.

A closer look at the anniversary design

The Academie’s azure et argent (blue and silver) theme continues for the school’s birthday with the bold sapphire blue and dark silver as the main shades.

The notched shield was replaced with a sapphire, the traditional gemstone of five year anniversaries. On it still is the Academie’s silver fleur-de-lis done in a more Florentine fashion, a nod to the school’s Italian fencing tradition, while still remaining true to the swashbuckling high adventure of The Three Musketeers that helped inspire the school.

Over the fleur-de-lis is a mid-17th century transitional rapier in honor of the school’s flagship fencing program. On the ricasso is a small sapphire, representing the program’s progress.

The Academie’s first in-person rapier class was held on July 8, 2021 at Tufts Park in Medford, MA. Since then, the Academie has taught rapier locally in the Greater Boston region for fencers participating in the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) and Western Martial Arts (WMA) spheres, as well as casual fencers and duelists looking to have fun with historical swordplay.

The Academie’s rapier program has blossomed from one single mixed-level class to four classes over two times slots, providing level-specific training for novices, beginners, and intermediate fencers alike.

In 2024, the Academie launched a remote training program which provides non-Boston local rapier fencers with access to weekly lesson plans and training demonstrations on various, rotating topics such as rapier + dagger, the art of deception, Cloaktober, and more.

New to the logo are two crossed swords at the top of the fleur-de-lis stem. It depicts both a smallsword and an Italian saber, symbolizing the school’s growth in its first five years. The Academie introduced its classical fencing program with the Italian foil, smallsword/dueling sword, and saber in the spring of 2023.

Next to the bottom stems — both in Arabic and Roman numerals — is the year the Academie was established. At the very bottom is a banner with “5 Years” typography, heralding the school’s blend of historical fencing and modern training.

More to Come…

Along with the Five Year Anniversary logo, the Academie plans on hosting a birthday bash and celebration this summer for fencing friends and family alike.

The school continues to take on new folks interested in historical and classical fencing throughout the year. Prospective students can visit our online schedule portal or email us to be alerted when new slots open up.

Academie fencers will be able to get the Five Year Anniversary logo on stickers, patches, and t-shirts over the coming year. New “discipline-specific” specific logo shirts will also be available soon this year, meaning fencers can rep the Academie with rapier, smallsword or saber designs.
