Boston Academie d’Armes is excited to announce that it’s Classical Fencing class will be moving to The Foundry in Cambridge, starting on March 1st.
The Academie’s Classical Fencing class covers traditional Italian fencing with the Italian foil, smallsword (dueling sword) and the saber. It’s led by the school’s founder, Justin Aucoin, a certified-instructor through the SSU FMCP.
The Foundry is a gem of a location in Cambridge, MA. It “provides space and programs for the visual and performing arts, entrepreneurship, technology, and workforce education within its historic, industrial setting.”
The Foundry is a self-sustaining center of creativity and collaboration in the Kendall Square neighborhood, offering the Cambridge community opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
The Foundry Consortium, The Foundry’s non-profit operator, helps facilitate access for residents, especially underrepresented communities to the dynamic working and learning environment of Kendall Square. The building also provides office space at market rate and below market rates for businesses and non-profit organizations.
The Academie was not only drawn to The Foundry’s beauty and historic industrial ties, but the organization’s dedication to inclusiveness in all it’s forms, including social and financial.
The move to The Foundry gives the Academie larger play space to train in. A free trial “Intro to Classical Fencing” class is scheduled for the second week of March for new fencers interested in the golden age of fencing.
The class will be held in the beautiful and recently renovated Dance Studio (Studio 11). Class will take place from 10:30am-1pm on Sundays. Amenities at The Foundry for fencers include gender-neutral bathrooms and changing rooms, lockers, plus a water fountain just outside the studio. There is also a cafe inside for additional drinks and snacks.
Boston Academie d’Armes is celebrating it’s fifth anniversary this year. The Academie’s classical fencing class has previously been held at Mary Flynn Murphy’s Dance Studio in Somerville for the past three years. Mary Flynn’s has been a vital piece of the school’s history and we thank them for their partnership the past half-decade.
The Foundry is located at 101 Rogers St, Cambridge, MA 02142 — a short walk from both the Lechemere and Kendall/MIT MBTA train stations. There is also street parking in the area.

About Our Classical Fencing Program
Classical fencing is a martial art that bridges the gap between the Napoleonic and Victorian dueling field and the modern sport fencing piste. It trains not to just land touches, but to not be touched in return.
In our weekly classical fencing program, fencers learn how to swashbuckle with the Italian foil, dueling saber and dueling sword as performed in the 18th through early 20th Centuries.
