Boston Historical and Classical Fencing Classes

We currently run group classes two days a week — classical fencing on Sundays and rapier on Tuesdays. These classes are open to all of our tuition-paid students.

We take in new fencers quarterly for a series of introductory classes. Get in touch if you’re interested, sign up here, or check out our New Fencer FAQ page. Spaces are limited.

We also welcome drop-ins from fencers from other HEMA schools and SCA groups! Please get in touch if you’d like to join us.

Our classical fencing class is broken up into two halves. The first half focuses on the Italian dueling sword and foil and the second half on the Italian saber. Class includes a warmup, fencing games, technical & tactical drills, and pickups.

This is a mixed-level class! Loaner gear is available.

Tuesday | Italian Rapier

6-8pm | Novice & Beginner

7:30-9:30pm | Beginner & Intermediate

Location: Odd Fellows Hall – Friendship Lodge #20 IOOF (16 Maple St, Belmont, MA 02478)

Each class begins with a general warmup, a fun agility course to improve footwork and athletic quickness, and a variety of fencing games. We then move onto core drill actions with partners before covering the week’s feature lesson.

The goal of the class is to improve each student’s depth of skill of core rapier actions as well as expand their technical and tactical toolkit with a breadth of knowledge.

This is a mixed-level class. Loaner gear is available.

Sparring and Newcomer Night!

Location: José Mateo Ballet Theatre (400 Harvard St. Cambridge, MA 02138)

Once a month, we run a sparring night to give our students time to work on the various techniques and tactics they’ve learned in class. It’s also opportunity to get in additional drill time, play some fencing games, or work through plays from fencing manuals.

Folks interested in joining the Academie are also welcome to swing by and see what all the fun is about. Please get in touch so we know to expect you!
